Ang-Ray draws his inspirations from great artists such as El Greco, Delacroix, van Gogh, Cezanne, Picasso, de Kooning, Bacon & Serra among others.
Born in Borneo, Ang-Ray moved to Singapore at the age of 13 to continue his education there. He has lived and worked in Hong Kong, Kota Kinabalu, Kuala Lumpur & London before coming to work & paint in NYC. Through his travels, he met and connected with many people of different races, religions and cultures. Embracing their colorful backgrounds and diversity, he expresses this world view in his artwork. He invites his viewers to connect and bond spiritually with his art.
His earlier paintings were influenced by the Post Impressionist & Expressionist artists, especially van Gogh, Seurat & Monet. Later works were influenced by the Abstract Expressionist artists, namely Kandinsky, de Kooning, Pollack, Hoffman & Gorky. His current work continues to evolve in three main series: The “Olympix”, The Organic CP & The Portraits Figurative with a fresh modern twist.
